The Zambian Premier league -ZPL- has officially been launched with its operations set to run independently from the Football Association of Zambia.

Prior to the launch of the league, the Football Association of Zambia -FAZ- was in charge of running all football matters from Club to National team Affairs.

The launch of the Zambia Premier league means a different structure has been established to oversee the running of domestic football.

Speaking during the launch, FAZ President ANDREW KAMANGA said the league will be run in partnership with football clubs and SuperSport who are a major stakeholder.

KAMANGA said the partnership with Supersport is meant to acquaint the clubs with the new structure and operations.

He says the launch is not a divorce but a partnership which will elevate the status of Zambian football.

And Zambian Premier League Chairperson KEPHAS KATONGO said the launch of the ZPL- is a huge milestone which has been in progress since the Chisamba declaration in 2009.

KATONGO said with a different structure from the FA, the aim will be to make football more commercially viable.
