(ZANIS) A Stores Officer at the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and his two sons have drowned in the Zambezi River in Mongu district, Western province.
A brother-in-law to the deceased, GEORGE MUWOWO told ZANIS that the incident happened between 15:00 hours and 16:00 hours on Saturday.
Mr. MUWOWO said MAYBIN CHILONGO met his fate when he took his family to celebrate his 50th birthday at a named lodge near the King Lubosi-Imwiko Bridge on Mongu-Kalabo road.
He said the deceased drowned in the river as he was trying to rescue his two sons, aged between 10 and 13, who were in the deep waters.
Mr. MUWOWO said the bodies were retrieved by fishermen using fishing nets and they are currently deposited in Lewanika General Hospital mortuary awaiting burial.
