The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU is impressed with the rate at which Mulungushi Textile in Kabwe is producting face masks.
DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe says the masks will be distributed to pupils across the country.
Mr. Kabwe disclosed that they are currently 100 machines which can make 1,500 masks per day.
He says DMMU engaged the Ministry of Defence who are managing the company so that reusable face masks can be made for pupils in examination classes following President Lungu’s directive .
Mr. Kabwe says the total number of pupils in examination classes is 1. 3-million and that government is targeting to give at least two face masks to each pupil.
He told ZNBC that DMMU is hopeful that Mulungushi Textile will meet the target because it has enough machines to do the work.
Mr. Kabwe further disclosed that government has also engaged four market associations to produce more face masks.
He said those engaged are the National Traders and Marketeers Association of Zambia (NATMAZ), Association of Vendors and Marketeers (AVEMA), Zambia National Marketeers and Credit Association (ZANAMACA) and the New Life Giving Ministries.
