Zambia has secured the necessary certifications to continue to be listed as a non European Union country authorized to export honey to the European Union.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE says the country’s residue control plan has also been approved.
Mr. CHIKOTE says the approval is significant because it assures safety of honey in line with the stringent EU food production requirements.
Addressing the media Lusaka, Mr. CHIKOTE said the move promotes market competitiveness for Zambian honey and other bee-hive products such as beeswax.
Mr. CHIKOTE also urged communities in high honey production areas to partner with his ministry in establishing farmer groups that will be trained and meet conditions for export.
