The church has called on the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) to ensure that the forthcoming general elections are held in a free, fair, credible and transparent manner.
Addressing the Press at the UPND secretariat this morning, head of the party’s Religious Affairs Committee, Pastor Kelly Mukonka stated that any semblance of bias in the way the ECZ conducts the forthcoming 12th August elections is recipe for anarchy.
Pastor Mukonka also urged the 3 church mother bodies to rise to the occasion and demand for a violent free election in order to allow all political players to sell their campaign message freely.
Mukonka, who didn’t fall short of recounting the anarchy that almost gripped Zambia following the disputed 2016 general elections, was quick to mention that an election that reflects the will of the people was the foundation for peace, love, unity and prosperity.
And Pastor Mukonka has cautioned the Zambia Police Service (ZP) to be wary of falling in the PF’s trap of using the COVID-19 pandemic as a vehicle on which to disadvantage the opposition and prevent them from freely campaigning.
