The Economic, Social and Cultural Council ECOSOCC-Zambian Chapter has declared its readiness to host the 3rd General Assembly to be held from 10th to 14th June 2019.
ECOSOCC is an African union organ that embraces civil society organisations at continental regional and national levels to provide among other functions advisory, programme and policy implementation as well as popularization of the au within member states and Zambia will be hosting the general assembly for the first time since it was established in 2004.
Addressing the media in Lusaka today, ECOSOCC Zambia chapter chairperson Dean Mulozi has disclosed that the aftermath of the general assembly will culminate into the ground breaking ceremony for the building of the ECOSOCC Secretariat which will be hosted by Zambia after its relocation from Addis Ababa Ethiopia.
Mr. Mulozi has since appealed to the Africa union to speed up the process to ensure the secretariat starts operating from Lusaka adding that the delay since the decision was made to relocate the organ has caused anxiety among the citizens across Africa.
The Economic, Social and Cultural Council (ECOSOCC) is an advisory body of the African Union designed to give civil society organizations a voice within the AU institutions and decision-making processes.
ECOSOCC is made up of civil society organizations from a wide range of sectors including labour, business and professional groups, service providers and policy think tanks, both from within Africa and the African diaspora.
The Interim President of ECOSOCC was Kenyan Nobel Prize winner Professor. Wangari Maathai. In 2008, she was replaced as President by Cameroonian lawyer Akere Muna of the Pan-African Lawyers Union
