Dysentery has broken out at the Kanyelele gold mine in Mpika district, Muchinga province.
ZANIS reports that this is after the return of an influx of illegal miners, barely 3 weeks after the security personnel stopped the illegal mining activities and ordered all people to vacate.
Mpika District Commissioner, DAVID SIAME has told the Provincial Permanent Secretary, HENRY MUKUNGULE, that the situation is bad at the Kanyelele gold mining site.
Mr SIAME was speaking Mpika, during a meeting on the formalisation of the Kanyelele gold mining activities, which was chaired by Mr MUKUNGULE.
He has explained that his office has received reports that some people are infected and hospitalised.
And Mr MUKUNGULE has said he is hoping the sanitation will be addressed when the illegal mining is brought under control, thereby preventing the outbreak of diseases.
