Police in Lusaka have arrested a 37-year-old Paramilitary police officer for the offence of failing to secure a firearm.
Constable EMMANUEL MUKANDE has also been charged with an administrative offence of being drunk on duty.
Police Spokesperson, RAE HAMOONGA has told ZNBC News in a statement that Constable MUKANDE committed the offences while on duty as he was performing an escort on cash in transit.
The incident occurred on Saturday July 15th, 2023 around 11:30 hours at Chris Corner in Chilenje township.
Mr. HAMOONGA said the officer who was detained at woodlands police station has since been released and will appear in court.
He said an Instigated tribunal through the office of the Inspector General of Police will forward the records of proceedings with recommendations to the Police Service Commission for further action.
