The Access to Information Coalition has acknowledged the steps that Government has taken to bringing Zambians closer to a more transparent and participative democratic environment through the Access to Information Bill -ATI.
Coalition Chairperson ALEX MUYEBE says section three of the ATI Bill has provisions that require information holders to proactively publish information which entails that citizens will promptly exercise their rights.
Fr. MUYEBE has however noted that there is still a lot that needs to be done to make the ATI Bill an instrument that will bring the public its freedom of access to information.
Speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today, Fr. MUYEBE hoped those stakeholders’ views will be taken into serious consideration in coming up with the final document of what will constitute the ATI law in Zambia.
Meanwhile Southern Africa Centre for Constructive Resolution of Disputes -SACCORD- Executive Director, BONIFACE CHEEMBE said Access to information is a fundamental human right that every democratic nation like Zambia must enact.
