CROCODILE SNATCHES KALABO FISHERWOMAN

THE Department for National Parks and Wildlife officers in Kalabo district in Western Province are searching for the body of a 29-year-old woman who was snatched by a crocodile yesterday during a fishing venture.

National Parks and Wildlife Operations Ranger Safely Mulala confirmed the development in an interview with ZANIS and identified the victim as Nosiku Muyabai of Kangongo village in Chief Kaongolo’s area.

Mulala, who is also Acting Area Warden, said the victim met her fate around 03:00 hours yesterday near Silanda area whilst fishing in the Luanginga River.

“It’s unfortunate! The bizarre incident occurred during awkward hours. She was using illegal fishing gear in form of mosquito nets,” he said.

Mulala said wildlife officers have since been deployed to the scene and that the search for the deceased’s body has so far not been fruitful.
