The Zambia Women’s National Team will jet in this afternoon after making their maiden appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Copper Queens are expected to return home around 14h00 after their premature elimination from the global showpiece.
Zambia finished third in group C after losing their opening two games and winning the third.
The COSAFA Champions started their World Cup outing with a 5-0 humiliation at the hands of the 2011 winners, Japan.
The Copper Queens followed it up with another humiliating 5-0 defeat at the hands of European side, Spain.
In their final group C match, the Copper Queens recorded their first ever win at the FIFA Women’s World Cup beating Costa Rica 3-1.
Lushomo Mweemba scored the opener in the 3rd minute, the fastest at the ongoing tournament and the first ever for a Zambian player (male or female ) at a Senior World Cup.
Barbra Banda doubled the lead from the spot, scoring the historical 1000th goal of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Banda then set up Rachel Kundananji for Zambia’s third goal. Melissa Herrera pulled a goal back but Zambia held on to win the match.
Next up for the Copper Queens is the 2024 Paris Olympic qualifiers against Mali and 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
