The Constitutional Court has dismissed a petition by two governance activists who had opposed the appointment of 20 new judges to the Constitutional Court, Court of Appeal and High Court by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA.
Rendering judgment today, Constitutional Court Judge PALAN MULONDA said the appointments were in line with the constitution.
However Judge MULONDA urged parliament to enact subsidiary legislation to guide the appointment of Judges in line with the Republican Constitution.
In the petition, ISAAC MWANZA and MAURICE MAKULU argued that the appointment of the 20 judges contravened articles 8, 173 and 210 of the Constitution.
President HICHILEMA appointed 20 Constitutional Court, Court of Appeal and High Court Judges in February this year.
