The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa COMESA is saddened with the situation in Sudan, which is one of the founding member states of COMESA.
COMESA Court of Justice Judge President LOMBE CHIBESAKUNDA says the current situation in that country underscores the urgency of considering alternative measures to ensure the court continues delivering on its mandate.
Speaking during the opening of the 26th meeting of COMESA Ministers of Justice and Attorneys General, Justice CHIBESAKUNDA said the meeting is expected to receive the report on the review of terms and conditions of service for judges, and the report on the review of the Human Resources and organizational structure of the court.
Meanwhile, Foreign Affairs Minister STANLEY KAKUBO has called on COMESA member states to ensure that legal instruments and decisions are domesticated at national level.
Mr. KAKUBO has also appealed to COMESA Secretary General CHILESHE KAPWEPWE to continuously engage member states and make follow ups on the pending ratifications of COMESA legal instruments.
And Ms. KAPWEPWE informed the meeting that there is need to work closely with the legal and corporate affairs division of the COMESA Secretariat to reflect on how best to accelerate the domestication of instruments that have been adopted.
