…….says the issue of eligibility of President Edgar Lungu is a settled matter.
Opposition National Revolution Party (NRP) President Reverend Dr Cozmo Mumba has advised opposition Economic and Equity Party (EEP) President Chilufya Tayali to respect the Office of the Presidency.
Dr Mumba has said in statement today that Mr Tayali should tone down on his rhetoric because he risks causing anarchy on the country.
He said the issue of His Excellency President Edgar Chagwa Lungu’s eligibility to stand in the upcoming August 12 general election was a matter which was settled more than once by the Constitutional Court.
“My brother Chilufya Tayali must tone done and respect the Office of the Presidency. We are very much sure that President Edgar Lungu is eligible and the ConCourt has ruled on it several times,” Dr Mumba said. “We don’t want people who are bent on propagating anarchy in this nation.”
And Dr Mumba has said the courts in Zambia are very competent enough to handle such constitutional matters hence it was not necessary for Mr Tayali to keep dragging himself in the matter.
“My brother Tayali, the issue is before our competent courts and Lordships (judges). Who are you to say that President Edgar Chagwa Lungu is not eligible?” Dr. Mumba wondered.
The opposition leader has since reiterated his support for President Lungu to continue rolling out the nationwide developmental agenda which the Patriotic Front (PF) government has embarked on.
