Chief MUKUNI of the Toka-Leya people of Kazungula District has appealed to government to promote rural investments in the Zambezi Valley.

And Chief MUKUNI says government should consider reserving an “Employment Quota” at ZESCO for youths that come from the chiefdoms of Chipepo, Sikoongo and Simamba.

ZANIS reports that the Chief said the move will act as a settlement for the immense sacrifices their forefathers made after being removed from their fertile ancestral lands in paving way for the construction of the Kariba Dam in 1958.

Chief MUKUNI said this when he graced this year’s Zambangulwe Traditional Ceremony of the Tonga people of Chief CHIPEPO in Chirundu District.

And visiting Chief NEGANDE of the Tonga people of Zimbabwe, called on Zambia and Zimbabwe to enhance cultural, social and economic ties for the benefit of the two countries.

Earlier, Zambezi River Authority -ZRA- Board Secretary, PETER KAPINGA said the authority through its Zambezi Valley Development Fund is implementing various development projects in chiefdoms that were affected by the construction of the Kariba Dam.
