House of Chiefs Chairperson Chief CHISUNKA has encouraged youths in the country to take up farming as a source of livelihood and lifestyle.

Chief CHISUNKA said farming must become the young people’s source of livelihood and lifestyle to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.

He told ZANIS in Mansa that youths must begin to drop their appetite for white collar jobs and develop a passion for farming if they are to evade poverty.

The traditional leader of the Ushi people of Mansa District observed that most youths in the country show little or no desire to engage in farming activities in preference for government jobs and handouts.

He noted that despite most chiefs in various chiefdoms showing willingness to allocate land for farming activities to the youths, the young people are not willing.
