Chief CHIKWANDA of the Bemba people of Mpika district in Muchinga province has praised the government for the social protection program in the country.
The Chief says the social security program such as the Food Security Pack -FSP-has transformed lives of many people in his chiefdom.
He noted that farmers on FSP in his chiefdom have doubled production and are able to feed their households.
Chief CHIKWANDA said this when Community Development Minister DOREEN MWAMBA called on him at his palace today.
The traditional leader also called on the government to scrutinize the selection of some Social Cash Transfer beneficiaries in order to avoid divorces.
Chief CHIKWANDA has observed that some married women are divorcing their husbands for them to benefit from the Social Cash Transfer under the Ministry of Community Development.
And Community Development Minister DOREEN MWAMBA has pledged the government’s commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable people in the country.
Ms. MWAMBA said the government is concerned that there are still many people living in poverty adding that she will work hard to improve the situation.
She further assured the traditional leader that the government will look into the concerns raised and preserve marriages in his chiefdom.
Ms. MWAMBA is in Muchinga province to check on the performance of people on the social security programs in the area.
