The Council of Churches in Zambia-CCZ-says the need for civility in Zambian politics is paramount to promote unity, effective governance, economic stability, social harmony, a positive international image and the preservation of democratic values.
CCZ General Secretary Emmanuel Chikoya says of late, the church has observed a continued trend of character assassination kind of politics from both the ruling and the opposition, which are detrimental to Zambia’s democratic dividends.
Father Chikoya has told Phoenix News that time has come for all politicians to be sober and focus on addressing the challenges the country is grappling with.
He says civil and respectful political discourse promotes an environment where diverse perspectives can be heard, leading to better governance and policy decisions that serve the interests of the citizens.
