Seventy thousand girls have gained access to education through the Girls Education Fund Program supported by the British Government.

Deputy British High Commissioner to Zambia SAM WALDOCK says the programme has been run at the cost of 7- million pounds.

Mr. WALDOCK says the actualization of the project is part of the United Kingdom’s commitment to prioritizing access to quality education.

He was speaking during the unveiling of the 2024 Rhodes Scholarship finalists in Lusaka .

And Speaking at the same event, Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA said his Ministry has so far concluded the review of the 1996 and 2013 Education Polices as part of the objective to modernize the country’s education system to meet global standards.

Mr. SYAKALIMA said once the Education system is modernized at all levels, it will be easy to develop the right human resource needed to reconstruct the economy.

The Minister said this in a speech delivered on his behalf by Ministry’s Director University Education AMOS MUMBA.

And Rhodes Trust in Zambia National Secretary NAMUKALE CHINTU said of the six finalists only two will be given scholarships to study at either the Oxford or Cambridge Universities.
