Former Boxer, ESTHER PHIRI, has urged athletes and pupils to refrain from vices that can put them at risk of contracting HIV/AIDS.
PHIRI says she wants to see more young people become professional athletes.
She was speaking during the Sports tournament on Monday, organized by the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC) and supported by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) as part of the World AIDS Day commemorations.
And OYDC Sports Development Chief Executive Officer FREDRICK CHITANGALA hailed PHIRI for the motivation rendered to athletes and pupils who were part of the commemorations.
CHITANGALA reiterated that HIV prevention through the Sports Project will run for 12 months and will actively involve activities in communities.
This is contained in a statement availed to ZNBC news by OYDC Communications Officer NOAH SILOMBA.
