The Anti-Smuggling Task force on the Copperbelt has intercepted a truck laden with 700 by 25 kilogramme bags of mealie meal destined for a neighbouring country.
Copperbelt Police Commissioner, PEACEWELL MWEEMBA says this was after police received information that smugglers were intending to smuggle mealie meal into the Democratic Republic of Congo using Kambowa Road in Masaiti district.
Mr. MWEEMBA told ZNBC News that police officers intensified patrols along Kambowa Road forcing the Smugglers to run away abandoning the truck and the mealie meal.
He said the truck is parked at Ndola Central Police Station.
