President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says there is a need for Africa to develop its own home grown solutions to public health needs and challenges.

President HICHILEMA says for this to be attained, Africa will have to be proactive through planning ahead for any form of pandemics.

He however says this should not be done in isolation but through working together with people that have access to technology, resources availability and experiences.

President HICHILEMA says the Covid 19 pandemic was one that exposed Africa and therefore there is need to ensure that solutions are found to enable the continent to address its public health challenges.

He says that the Government has also started implementing positive discrimination in  the procurement process of medicines ,vaccines and diagnostics tools that are valued within the country.

President HICHILEMA said this when the Africa CDC Director General JEAN KASEYA and his team paid a courtesy call on him at the state house.

He further said following the Government stance on positive discrimination some investors have show interest to start manufacturing products within the country such as the cholera vaccines.

And, Dr. KASEYA said that President HICHILEMA leadership has enabled Zambia to receive various support from stakeholders to improve the country’s public health security.

He said Lusaka call to action was able to secure over  120 million dollars to support 23 priority country’s public health emergency operation centres which is a powerful tool to deal with any outbreak.

Dr. KASEYA also disclosed that Zambia will next month be hosting the conference on Public Health in Africa where a number of President’s will be expected to attend the conference.
