Government has confirmed that the country recorded 37 cases of Rabies and Anthrax countrywide since January this year.
Fisheries and Livestock Minister MAKOZO CHIKOTE says the increase in the cases has been as a result of human – animal conflict in areas that are prone to wildlife envision.
Mr. CHIKOTE says the Ministry has increased surveillance in an effort to curb the spread of the two diseases.
He said on 24th July this year, the Ministry diagnosed rabies from a female child in Nakonde who died of suspected rabies after she was beaten by a dog.
And Zambia National Public Health Institute Director of Surveillance and Disease Intelligence Dr. MUZALA KAPIÑA says the government has procured ten thousand doses of anti-rabies in an effort to contain the disease.
