2024-national-budget-likely-to-reflect-further-decline-in-mineral-royalty-kasonde-mwenda
Economic Freedom Fighters President Kasonde Mwenda anticipates that the 2024 National Budget will reflect a further decline in mineral royalty due to government’s continued mismanagement and poor policy direction in the mining sector.
Speaking at a pre-national budget press briefing in Lusaka this morning ahead of the 2024 budget presentation this Friday, Mr Mwenda observes that the projected mineral royalty in the 2022 budget was at K12.8 billion and reduced to K8.9 billion in 2023.
Mr Mwenda says the alarming decline comes despite promises of increased copper production and sound policy direction in the mining sector.
He has since demanded that the mining sector be managed with sound policy direction where mineral resources are utilized to their fullest potential for the benefit of all Zambians.
And Mr Mwenda has advised government to pay attention to fiscal management which has demonstrated a lack of transparency and accountability to ensure a smooth budgetary process.
