The Lusaka Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced two former Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- Customs Officers to three years imprisonment with hard labour for corrupt practices involving over 15,500 Kwacha.
In presiding over the matter, Lusaka Magistrate NTHANDOSE CHABALA said the prosecution had proved its case beyond all reasonable doubt and therefore, found CAROLINE MUKELEBAI and GILBERT MAINZA guilty of Abuse of Authority of Office and Corrupt Practices by Public Officer and convicted them accordingly.
Mr. MAINZA has since been sentenced to three years imprisonment with hard labour in the first count and 18 months imprisonment with hard labour in the second count.
And Ms. MUKELEBAI has been sentenced to three years simple imprisonment in the first count and 18 months simple imprisonment in the second count.
The sentence is effective today and will run concurrently.
The Anti-Corruption Commission -ACC- in 2015 jointly arrested and charged the two with one count of Abuse of Authority of Office and one count of Corrupt Practices by Public Officer respectively.
